Julia M. Ellison Travel Journal
Scope and Contents
European travel journal of Kirksville, Missouri, resident Julia M. Ellison, which includes her travel in Germany, Russia, Sweden and Norway. In the summer of 1909, Mrs Ellison made a "spur of the moment" decision to take an extended European trip. This 150 page journal is the diary of a portion of that trip. The first entry, June 16, 1909, was written mid-ocean aboard The President Lincoln of the Hamburg-American Line, and recounts the events leading up to her "unexpected" trip as well as what occurred from the time she left home on June 5 to the date of writing. Mrs Ellison began her tour from Berlin, stopping for a few days in Warsaw before spending a little over a week in Russia (Moscow and St Petersburg). She went from there to Helsinki, spent another few days in Sweden (Stockholm and Golinberg) then took a month's tour of Norway. From mid August to the first of October, she lived in Berlin then moved to Dresden where she remained the rest of the winter. In her February 14, 1910 entry from Dresden, the last in the journal, Mrs Ellison indicates she will leave the next day for Italy. The last page of the journal contains addresses for George Schultz, London, England; F Schultz, Huyton, Lancashire, England; D W Scarisbrick, Liverpool, England; and Mrs Alfred A Stoneberger, Paris, France.

Physical Description
A page has been cut from the middle of two entries. There seems to be nothing missing from the June 22 entry written in Berlin; the sentence continues its flow from one page to the next despite the removed page in between. (Mrs Ellison possibly made a "mess" and decided to tear it out and start over.) Part of the narrative was definitely removed when the page was cut from the August 1 entry at Förde, Norway. Wording on the following page gives the impression that it included something which Mrs Ellison regretted writing.
