Biographical / Historical
The Rotary Club is an international service organization that works to promote and advance goodwill, peace, and integrity through the fellowship of community, business, and professional leaders. The Kirksville Chapter of the Rotary International Club was established in 1918 by George Still, who also served as the Kirksville Club’s first President. Kirksville’s Chapter lies in District 6040 for Rotary International, which comprises Rotary Chapters from Northern Missouri. Most notably for the Kirksville Chapter, Ray Klinginsmith served as the Rotary International President in 2010 – 2011. The Rotary Club and the Kirksville community have a longstanding connection with each other. Since the Rotary Club is focused around service, the Kirksville Chapter has held various fundraising and service events during the chapter’s tenure. Most notably, the Chicken-Q and Ducky Dash are two events that have worked to fundraise for community efforts, as well as the Kirksville Amphitheatre Project. Kirksville’s Rotary Club has also sponsored new clubs, within the Kirksville community and surrounding area. Some of Kirksville Rotary’s annual initiatives also include work with the Salvation Army, Red Cross Blood Drives, Shoes for Orphaned Souls, and academic and scholarship awards. You can find more information about the history of the Kirksville Chapter in item 1:1 Section 4: History & Memory.
