This collection contains a scrapbook of the Kirksville Boy Scouts from 1930-1935, which includes clippings of local Boy Scouts news, posters and programs for local Boy Scout events. The cover was created by J.F. Walker.

Biographical / Historical

Boy Scouts of America was founded in 1910. Adair County Council number 740 was founded in 1926 and in 1928 became renamed as the Pershing 740 Council. In 1930, the Pershing 740 Council became known as the Central Missouri 653 Council. Today, the Kirksville Boy Scout Troops belong to the Great Rivers Council 653, which formed out of the original Central Missouri 653 Council. In Kirksville today there are Troops 401 and 404.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated to the E.M. Violette Museum by Roger York for Felix Rothschild and past Scouts in May 1961 and has since been relocated to Special Collections, Pickler Memorial Library, Truman State University.

Related Materials

While not much is known about the history of Kirksville's Boy Scout Troops besides the information contained in the scrapbook, a photo of former Boy Scouts at Camp Winnetka in the 1930s can be found in "Adair County Revisited: Pictorial History of the 20th Century in Adair County, Missouri" (F 472 A2 A268 1999, Special Collections, Pickler Memorial Library).

This collection is in its original order. Most pages have water damage. The finding aid is in order according to pages in the scrapbook.
