Biographical Note

Glenn Frank was born on October 1, 1887, and was raised in Greentop, Missouri. As a young man, he was a Methodist preacher, known throughout Northeast Missouri as the "boy preacher." At the age of seventeen, he enrolled in the Normal School in Kirksville in 1904. In 1909, he entered Northwestern University and graduated with baccalaureate and master's degrees. In 1919, he became associate editor of the Century Magazine, and its editor-in-chief in 1921, serving until 1925 when he became president of the University of Wisconsin. Following a political disagreement with the LaFollette organization in Wisconsin, he left the university in 1937. Dr. Frank met his untimely death in 1940 in an automobile accident, while campaigning as a candidate for the United States Senate from Wisconsin. In this accident, his only child, Glenn Frank Jr., was also killed.
