Biographical / Historical

Frank E. Cassity (1878–1955) was born and raised in Purdin, Linn County, Missouri. Frank married Miriam (Puckett) Cassity (1876–1969) in 1903 and together they had two daughters, Clara Ethel Schwengel and Florence Sears. Ethel graduated from Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in 1932, where she met and married former U.S. Representative Fred Schwengel (R-Iowa).

Frank and Miriam Cassity donated items from their family’s farm in Linn County to E.M. Violette Museum at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in 1946. Their original collection included pieces of furniture, farm implements, tools, and similar items that were typically found on farms in Northeast Missouri. The Cassitys believed it was important to preserve the history of Northeast Missouri, and they fulfilled their duty to preserving history through their donations. In 2021, a family member donated additional artifacts and these manuscripts to Special Collections and University Archives at Pickler Memorial Library.
