This collection contains documents, photos, and artifacts from the life of Mildred (Brown) Willows. From 1943-1970, Willows owned and operated "Mildred's Beauty Shop", a local business in Kirksville, Mo.

Biographical Note

Mildred Neoma Brown was born on September 18, 1912 in Knox County, Missouri. In 1937, she was still dependent on her parents and deemed a "spinster". By 1939, she received a degree from cosmetology school and started her own business. From 1943-1970, Mildred owned and operated "Mildred's Beauty Shop" in Kirksville. In 1963, she married Claude "Buzz" Willows and continued managing her beauty shop. Mildred was a member of the Missouri Cosmetology Association and the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology, for which she attended numerous conferences and workshops to enhance her business knowledge.

These materials were donated to the Special Collections Department in January of 2014 by H. Penn.
