Dedication of event
"The Jean Mason Kraus Memorial Fund precipitated the development of the NMSU Art Gallery. The Gallery is formally opening with the Kraus Retrospective Exhibition in acknowledgement of this fund and in honor of an outstanding alumnus. Jean Mason Kraus, 1943-1970, NMSC 1965, was an art teacher in the Clark County school system and taught in Germany two years before induction into the service. Sgt. Kraus, U.S. Army, had been in Vietnam only a few weeks when he was killed in action August 5, 1970. His parents, Marie and late Milton Kraus made their public memorial gift for the Art Gallery at the NMSC presentation of the St. Matthew Passion in memory of Jean Kraus April 23, 1972. There will be a formal opening of the new NMSU Gallery and the Kraus Exhibiton from 3-5 P.M. Sunday, April 8. The public is invited. The Kraus Exhibition will continue through April 18 with Gallery Hours from 12 to 5 P.M. daily except Saturday."
