Materials Specific Details
According to a typed note taped inside the front cover, this autograph album, which was a gift of Sam A. Burk, "belonged to Amelia (Millie) Burk of Warsaw, Ill., and Edina, Mo., and dates back to 1887." The June 6, 1887 entry on the first page, however, is addressed to both Amelia and her sister Anna, while the rest of the album contains entries addressed to each of them. The autographs are not in chronological order. Those in the front half are addressed to Amelia and in the back half to Anna; some with no salutation appear throughout.
To: Amelia, "Amy" or "Millie" -- Mar 23, 1887 (Mar 23, '87 – Sep 17, '90) June 3, 1892.
To: Anna or "Annie" -- May 31, 1890 - Mar 20, 1899.
To: Miss Burk or no salutation -- Mar 17, 1887 - May 31, 1895.
In October 1899, J.B. Van Patten signed the book for "Friend Anna" in Kirksville. The last autograph, addressed to "Mrs Van Patton", was entered in Amoret, MO on Nov 30, 1900. The album also contains a receipt for dues to Wild Rose Camp No 1788, Royal Neighbors of America, for Mr. and Mrs. van Patten dated July 27, 1901.
Signers were friends and cousins from Adair, Amoret, Edina, Granger, Kansas City, Kirksville and Millport, MO; and Belleville, La Prairie, Macomb, Mascoutah, Mt. Sterling, Quincy and Warsaw, IL
