Biographical Note

Goldie Easter Pitney Bivin (1902-1999) was born and raised in Higbee, Missouri, and graduated from Higbee High School in 1920. From the time Goldie graduated high school, she began her career in education, teaching at a variety of rural schools throughout Missouri and Illinois. Goldie graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in 1931. Upon her graduation from the Teachers College, Goldie received her Master of Commerce degree from the University of Denver. Goldie then taught at LaGrange College in Hannibal, Missouri, and ended her education career teaching at the Brimfield and Waverly schools in Illinois. Goldie married J. Owen Bivin in July 1953, and became a farmer’s wife. After Owen died in 1984, Goldie moved back to Missouri to be closer to family, and passed on March 21, 1999. Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection was donated to Special Collections, Pickler Memorial Library, Truman State University by Goldie’s nieces, Marylin Yvonne Pitney Barron and Sylvia Julene Pitney Thornhill in March 2022.

Processing Information

Arrangement scheme for the collection was imposed during processing in the absence of a useable original order. Some photos from the photo album have been removed by the donor and family prior to donation.
