Biographical Note

Born of Korean refugees in Manchuria during the Japanese invasion of Korea, No-Yong Park (1899-1976) went to Europe for a Western education. He later relocated to the U.S., earning an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. From 1940 through 1974, he was a Social Science faculty member at what is now Truman State University. Park was a popular lecturer, scholar and writer. He was nationally known as an expert on China and East-West relations. His books include An Oriental View of American Civilization (1934), Retreat of the West: The White Man's Adventure in Eastern Asia (1937), Chinaman's Chance: An Autobiography (1940), The White Man's Peace: An Oriental View of Our Attempts at Making World Peace (1948), A Squint-Eye View of America (1951), and Long Time No See: Lectures (1967).

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection was a bequest to Truman State University by the Will of Chinn Callan (Chin-Lan Park), No-Yong Park's daughter, at the request of her father in 2006.
