From the Collection:

This collection contains items pertaining to World War II (1939-1945), including printed material, maps, and writings. Of particular interest is a log kept by Orville Bowers about bombing missions in Europe. The printed material includes newspapers and pamphlets printed during the war, both internationally and on the American homefront.

Orville Bowers

Dr. Orville Edward Bowers (1923-2014) was raised in rural Adair County and Kirksville. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He became a co-pilot of a B-17, serving in the 99th Bomber Group. He was discharged in October of 1945, and became part of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Dr. Bowers worked at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) as Registrar and later as a professor of Education.
